Jose Gonzalez is a respected Maître D’ at Bice Ristorante in Palm Beach, where he has worked for over 30 years. Known for his kindness and integrity.

Right now, Jose Gonzalez is sitting in an ICE detention facility known as “Alligator Alcatraz” — not because he committed a crime, but simply because of his immigration status.

Jose has no criminal record.
Jose has a valid U.S. work permit.
Jose has done everything asked of him.

Yet he remains behind bars.

Jose is a hard-working, law-abiding individual who has contributed to his community and followed the rules. He pays taxes, works legally, and lives with the constant hope that doing the right thing would protect him. Instead, he has been separated from his life, his work, and the people who depend on him.

ICE detention is supposed to be reserved for individuals who pose a danger or a flight risk. Jose is neither. His continued detention serves no purpose other than punishment — punishment without cause, without conviction, and without compassion.

The facility known as “Alligator Alcatraz” has become a symbol of fear and cruelty, not justice. No human being — especially one with a clean record and legal work authorization — should be subjected to such conditions. Detention like this breaks families apart, devastates livelihoods, and inflicts lasting emotional trauma.

Jose’s attorneys have taken immediate legal action to challenge this unjust detention. They have filed a Petition for Writ of Habeas Corpus in U.S. District Court, seeking an order that would force ICE to release Jose from detention. This filing underscores the seriousness of ICE’s overreach and makes clear that Jose’s continued detention is not only unnecessary, but unlawful.

Jose’s loved ones wake up every day not knowing when — or if — he will come home. His absence has left an emotional and financial void that no family should have to endure, especially when his detention is entirely unnecessary.

ICE has the authority to release Jose today. Prosecutorial discretion exists for cases exactly like his — cases involving dignity, fairness, and basic humanity.

We urgently call on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security to immediately release Jose Gonzalez from ICE detention and end the unnecessary detention of individuals with no criminal record and valid work authorization.

Jose is not a number. He is not a threat. He is a human being who deserves freedom, dignity, and fairness.
