A dog cannot ask for help. A dog cannot stop abuse.

The amount of abuse to such amazing creatures is still extremely high, and the current measures to prevent this have not been as effective as previously believed.

However, it is not just abuse that is causing such wonderful creatures to suffer. It is also the ignorance of some owners who believe they are doing the best for their dog. I have seen countless animals who's owners, despite having huge love for their furry companion, do not walk their dog, provide enough mental stimulation or train them.

This lack of understanding is detrimental to a dog's mental health and well-being, which prevents them from living a full, happy life. What's shocking is that while there is legislation for providing this care, none of these owners I've met know of it because it is not enforced.

For this reason, dog licences along with a mandatory dog care course is essential in improving the lives of all dogs. If every person has to have a driving licence to drive a car, then shouldn't every owner have a licence to care for their dog?

A dog cannot stop abuse. Neither can a dog care for his needs. Take responsibility for our dogs' mental health.

Bring back dog licences.
