Why this petition matters

Started by Ashley Kirksey

As a lifelong Exeter citizen, my childhood memories of fall festival are very fond. My parents would take us downtown for the parade, where hundreds of people would come from surrounding cities to watch and see their children/friends perform in the parade. We would follow the end of the parade to the city park, where we would play all day, eat funnel cakes, snow cones and Indian tacos while watching our friends perform at the gazebo. We would spend the entire day at the park with our friends shopping the little booths and enjoy seeing so many faces that we don't see as often as we used to.

Since the Fall Festival has been moved downtown, we have less people coming into Exeter since there has not been a parade for their children to perform in. There is minimal shade, being on the blacktop causes it to feel so much hotter than it would if it were on the grass at the park, very few food vendors and not the typical food vendors everyone knows and loves. There are far less booths to shop, and you're not able to see the performances unless you are standing right next to the stage area.

The tradition of the Fall Festival and the nostalgia of our childhoods is what brings people to the festival, and we need to bring it back to the park and make it more kid and family friendly again!
