You might already know that the BLM spent $37,418 of your tax dollars on a study to determine whether or not captive wild horses and burros need access to shade. Despite the outcome of the $37,418 study, captive wild horses and burros need access to shade, period. In the wild, they can freely move to shaded areas and cooler zones. Trapped in BLM's pens they can't go anywhere. Here is the original grant announcement from 2014: http://www.federalgrants.com/CESU-Wild-Horse-and-Burro-Shade-Study-47368.html "CESU Wild Horse and Burro Shade Study: This CESU study will investigate behavioral differences between healthy and compromised horses in the captive wild horse population at Palomino Valley Center, Reno, NV (PVC). The research will investigate the differences in total time spent in shade and the frequency and duration of shade use bouts. This Funding Announcement is not a request for applications. This announcement is to provide public notice of the Bureau of Land Management's intention to fund the following project activities without full and open competition. Here's a report that was probably given to your senators and / or congressperson if they represented your concerns for shade: http://www.blm.gov/style/medialib/blm/wo/Planning_and_Renewable_Resources/wild_horses_and_burros/advisory_board_10_2011.Par.7704.File.dat/Shade%20Study%20and%20Thermal%20Profile%20Assessment%20Presentation%209%202015.pdf Notice how BLM shows an unused shade structure at the end of the report to get their message across. Did they really think we wouldn't notice all the wild horses were eating near the feeders? Keep the pressure on!
