The Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) experts want to fear-monger your elected officials to open the back door to slaughter. BLM complains it "would" take $1 billion to take care of 47,000 captive wild horses and burros for their LIFETIME (25-30 years). Keep in mind that BLM ripped them off public land land where BLM pulls in MORE THAN 4 billion annually. According to BLM, "The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's mission is to manage and conserve the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations under our mandate of multiple-use and sustained yield. In Fiscal Year 2015, the BLM generated $4.1 billion in receipts from activities occurring on public lands." Read the BLM's latest ploy to wipe out wild horses and burros: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory/blm-boss-wild-horse-program-facing-future-1b-39070413 The BLM's adoption program has been incompetent and a big turn off for would-be adopters. Their customer service is rotten. It's as if the BLM wants the program to fail so they can strip them of their federal protections and disperse wild horses to states, counties, etc. to "dispose" of them. Ultimately the majority will end up at slaughter! Fertility control (PZP http://protectmustangs.org/?p=8749, Spay, Neuter, Gonacon, and other Experiments) on underpopulated and genetically threatened wild herds is a bad idea. It gives BLM permission to treat them like 'pests"--take control and wipe them out before a new administration gets into the White House. We all have a lot of work to do to protect our wild horses. The law must be upheld and their freedoms protected. Together we can turn this around.
