I have started this petition to try to bring Delegate’s Pride AKA Chip back to his home of 13 years on Assateague Island. He is currently being held somewhere between Maryland and the ranch he is being sent to in Texas. This means we have time to bring him back. He has been quarantined and vaccinated meaning he poses no risk to the other horses on the island upon his return. 

Chip was removed from the island after he was involved with over 50% of all injuries and/or instances involving conflict between horse and human. Mind you, visitors are to maintain a safe distance of 40 feet. Visitors are also not supposed to feed or interact with the horses in any way. Unfortunately, park services seems to care more about humans having a pleasurable experience (bringing more revenue to the park) rather than fining the humans that break the rules. This does not mean Chip should lose his home of 13 years and his family he has battled many other stallions before him to have. 

Chip has called Assateague Island home since 2009 when he was born as a wild pony. He has learned to survive the harsh environment of island life and even started a band that includes his pregnant mare, Susi Sole, and multiple offspring including TJ Hollywood and Breezey. His mare and offspring rely on him for protection. This puts his entire family at risk. He will never feel the salt air or run into the ocean breeze again. He will never see his family again… the stress alone could kill him. 

Signing this petition means you stand with me in demanding Delegate’s Pride AKA Chip be brought back to Assateague Island. We, as tax payers, have every right to be involved in these kinds of decisions made by government entities that rely on us for revenue. It wasn’t until Chip was already removed that it was decided to let the public know. Well, the public is mad, and we want Chip reunited with his island and family.
