Providence College students of Ward 14 deserve to have their voices heard. Councilwoman Shelley Peterson has repeatedly criticized our school and student body in ways that misrepresent who we are and what we contribute to this community. Instead of engaging directly, she has refused to come to campus and hold an open dialogue with the very people her policies affect.
As students, we are not only members of Providence College, we are active participants in the city’s life and economy. We support local businesses, volunteer in the community, and contribute to the cultural and economic vitality of Providence in ways that far outweigh the negative image she has unfairly painted.
It is unacceptable for an elected representative to speak about her constituents while refusing to speak with them. By signing this petition, you are calling on Councilwoman Peterson to come to Providence College, address the student body directly, and engage in a fair Q&A session. We deserve transparency, accountability, and the opportunity to respond to policies and claims that impact our daily lives.
