Bring Coach Kierra Welch back as Youngstown High Schools head cheerleading coach
The Issue
After the merging of Chaney and East High Schools, parents & former East high cheerleaders were very upset to learn that Kierra Welch, our amazing head cheerleading coach at East High for the past four years, was not chosen to continue in her role. Instead, the Chaney High cheer coach, known as "Coach Bo," was appointed. This is NOT made to bash Coach Bo, as she is also a good coach—We just believe this decision overlooks the valuable leadership, dedication, and harmony Kierra brought to our cheer team, and we are asking to bring her back to her rightful position.
Kierra Welch has been more than just a coach to us; she has been a leader, a motivator, and a supporter of our personal and team goals. During her time of coaching, she created a nurturing and empowering environment where each cheerleader felt valued and inspired to perform at their best. Her experience as a former head cheerleader herself brings a unique understanding to the role that is deeply appreciated by the students and parents alike.
Under Kierra’s guidance, our cheerleading team blossomed, achieving not just awards and recognition in competitions, but also fostering teamwork, discipline, and educational excellence. She encouraged all her athletes to maintain high academic standards, thus preparing them for future success both on and off the field. Her disappearance as coach is not just a loss to the cheerleading team, but a void in the lives of countless students she guided and inspired.
Moreover, without Kierra, we fear the loss of the rich traditions and spirit that were unique to the East High cheerleading squad. The team dynamics she cultivated helped to unite students across different backgrounds, contributing to a vibrant and inclusive school spirit that thrived under her leadership.
In addition, many parents and students have raised concerns about the lack of community input in the decision-making process to replace Kierra. This absence of transparency and community engagement has left many feeling unheard and dismissed, sparking frustration and disappointment throughout the community.
We, therefore, urge the school administration to reconsider their decision and reinstate Kierra Welch as our high school cheerleading coach. Doing so will not only honor her commitment and passion for our community but also ensure that the legacy of excellence she has built can continue for future generations of cheerleaders.
Please sign this petition to help us bring back Kierra Welch, a coach who truly embodies the spirit and values we hold dear. Let's restore unity, passion, and excellence to our cheerleading program!
