The Issue

We, the undersigned residents, travelers, and cruise enthusiasts, are calling for the return of Carnival Cruise Line sailings from San Diego.

San Diego is one of the most desirable cruise departure ports on the West Coast, offering year-round beautiful weather, a world-class waterfront, and convenient access for millions of Southern California residents. For families, first-time cruisers, and travelers seeking shorter, more affordable getaways, San Diego is an ideal homeport—especially for popular Baja Mexico itineraries like Ensenada and Cabo San Lucas.

Since Carnival discontinued regular sailings from San Diego, many local travelers have been forced to drive further north to Long Beach or Los Angeles, adding time, cost, and inconvenience—especially for families with children. A return to San Diego would provide a more accessible and relaxed departure experience while also reducing congestion at other ports.

Bringing Carnival back—even on a seasonal basis—would:

- Boost local tourism and support San Diego’s economy

- Increase accessibility for families and first-time cruisers

- Offer convenient short cruise options from a less crowded port

- Strengthen Carnival’s presence in Southern California

San Diego has a strong and growing base of cruise customers who are ready to sail. We believe there is clear demand for Carnival to reestablish service here, even if starting with seasonal itineraries or smaller ships.

We respectfully urge Carnival Cruise Line and local port authorities to consider reinstating cruises from San Diego and to explore opportunities to bring this valued option back to our community.
