Georgia is overdue for a smarter recycling system. States like Michigan, New York, and California reward residents with 5–10 cents per bottle or can when returned through reverse vending machines — and it works. It reduces litter, increases recycling rates, and puts money back in people’s pockets.

Meanwhile, Georgia offers no cash incentive for recycling, no reverse vending machines, and limited options for community-based sustainability. It’s time for that to change.

We are calling on Governor Brian Kemp, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and local lawmakers to implement a statewide bottle deposit law and install reverse vending machines in grocery stores, gas stations, and high-traffic community areas.
