Bring back UT Austin TXA Capstone Fashion Show

Bring back UT Austin TXA Capstone Fashion Show
The Issue
We are current and former Textiles & Apparel (TXA) students, alumni, faculty, friends, and supporters of UT Austin’s fashion program. We’re calling on the University to bring back the full, creative Capstone Collection Fashion Show and restore real design opportunities in the major. Many of us chose the TXA major because we’re passionate about fashion. We dreamed of creating beautiful garments, expressing our ideas, and turning our creativity into something real.
The annual Capstone Fashion Show was more than just an event; it was a celebration of creativity, innovation, and hard work. It was a platform where students could showcase their unique designs, gain invaluable real-world experience, and connect with industry professionals. The cancellation of this show has not only robbed us of a crucial educational opportunity but has also diminished our ability to fully explore and exploit our creative capacities.
UT Austin has always been a beacon of excellence and innovation in higher education. However, the decision to truncate or eliminate the Capstone Fashion Show contradicts this legacy. As a program known for fostering creativity and producing industry leaders, it is imperative that we restore the show in its full glory. Doing so would maintain the integrity of the TXA major and ensure that current and future students receive the complete educational experience they deserve.
The fashion industry heavily relies on experience and exposure, both of which the Capstone Fashion Show provided in abundance. Without it, students are at a disadvantage as they enter a field that is competitive and demands a strong, diverse portfolio.
We urge UT Austin’s administration to recognize the significance of the Capstone Fashion Show and the vital role it plays in our education. By reinstating it, the university would affirm its commitment to supporting creativity and preparing students for successful careers in the fashion industry.
Join us in urging UT Austin to bring back the full UT Austin TXA Capstone Fashion Show. Your signature can help restore this cherished tradition and ensure that future generations of designers are given the opportunity to shine. Please sign our petition today.
