The issue
Dedicated players of rocket league, are fundamentally upset and annoyed by the removal of player-to-player trading on December 5, 2023. This change was a massive disservice to the community and needs to be reversed immediately.
The stated reason for removing trading was to "align Rocket League with Epic’s overall approach to item shop cosmetics." I believe this is a lazy and insulting excuse designed purely to boost profit, not to benefit the players.
Trading was a staple of our community. It was how we helped new friends, completed sets, and rewarded loyalty without forcing every single transaction through a paywall. Epic games replaced a non-profit community exchange with microtransactions.
Epic’s decision was clearly about integrating with Fortnite in December 2023. We are Rocket League players. Many of us do not play Fortnite and shouldn't have our game's core mechanics ruined for the sake of another franchise. This feels like a disrespectful disregard for the identity of the game we love and to further emphasise this rocket racing had a downfall in player count as everyone who did play it would rather play rocket league instead.
Why should we bother grinding for rare drops to leave it up to chance (which are also eventually going to be removed) if the only thing we can do is hold them? They have no dynamic value; they can't be traded up, sold for currency, or swapped for an item we actually want.
Forced to spend our money everything a player now wants is funneled through the Item Shop, which requires them to buy your in-game credits. There is no ability to get free items from a friend or complete a non-profit exchange with another player. You have eliminated the generosity and cooperation that defined the community.
We are not asking for a favor; we are demanding that you restore a feature that was essential to the game's identity.
Epic Games stop penalizing the rocket league community for your corporate alignment. Bring back player-to-player trading now. Restore the enjoyment, the value, and the community spirit you carelessly took away in December 2023.
