The Issue

AMC Theatres has long offered concessions that cater to a variety of preferences, and the small popcorn was a staple for guests who wanted a modest, affordable snack. Its removal forces patrons to buy larger, more expensive portions, leaving solo moviegoers, families on a budget, and health-conscious guests without a suitable option. Many, including solo attendees, sometimes forgo purchasing popcorn altogether because they don’t want to commit to a full-size portion they can’t finish — meaning AMC is missing out on actual sales.

Some AMC locations still carry small popcorn — but only if you buy it as part of the “small combo,” which forces you to also take a small drink. That makes no sense. What if AMC decided guests could only get a regular popcorn if they bought it with a regular drink? Customers would be outraged. So why is the small size locked behind a combo? Larger sizes are available à la carte, and the same should be true for the small. Moviegoers deserve the choice to order exactly what they want without being forced into a bundle they didn’t ask for.

For many, the small popcorn perfectly complemented the movie experience without waste or overindulgence. Reintroducing it would enhance satisfaction, demonstrate AMC’s commitment to all patrons, and support healthier portions while reducing food waste.

We urge AMC Theaters to prioritize choice and inclusivity by bringing back the small popcorn — ensuring everyone can enjoy a classic snack in the perfect portion.
