Now that the new Labor State Government has elected Clare Scriven as Minister for Primary Industry (previously David Basham) and Susan Close as Minister for Environment and Water (previously David Speirs), there will be new eyes on this recent change to allow spearfishing after 30 years of it being banned on the Adelaide metro coast. It is really important to show the new Ministers that most people do not want this change and want the ban reinstated so please write to them.
I have been waiting to see contact details for the ministers in their new roles but currently their existing contact details are still shown as Clare Scriven at scriven.office@parliament.sa.gov.au and Susan Close at her constituency of ptadelaide@parliament.sa.gov.au - as this includes Outer Harbor, one of the 2 areas where the ban was lifted, it is very relevant to her.
So please write to them and tell them why you want the ban reinstated - dangerous to other beachgoers, may reduce rather than increase the coastal economy, bad for marine biodiversity just where people like to snorkel and dive to see reef fish. The flyer in the photo was delivered with the 5049 Communicator newsletter to the 5049 area (which includes Marino Rocks) by 5049 Coastal Community volunteers so that more people will be aware of this issue.
