Bring back the LP jazz band

The Issue

The students of Lewis Palmer High School have been fortunate to have a Colorado State award winning Jazz band, eagerly anticipating the continuity of this musical experience. Sadly, this opportunity has now been withheld from them. Numerous aspiring students who were set to participate in the upcoming year, and even those with aspirations to pursue jazz beyond high school, have had this chance taken away. Instead, the decision has been made to relocate resources towards appointing the new band director to oversee a study hall, wasting his talents. The other sister high school in the area offers jazz band. There is no reason it shouldn’t also be offered at LPHS as there is a dedicated teacher ready to teach This class. This could end up leading to a potential detriment in students' passions and hobbies. This choice may result in a significant setback, diminishing the range of students' interests and pursuits. This choice to cut the Jazz Band @LPHS was never discussed with parents or student’s. In fact, they found out when schedules were released ten days before school starts. These students, many who were state award winners, were left surprised and hurt that their passion was easily discarded. We implore reconsideration of this decision, as it is essential to preserve and foster the artistic and personal growth of our talented young musicians at Lewis Palmer High School. Reconsider  dismantling this highly distinguished program and adding it the schedule as a zero hour class”
