My name is Veda Lewis and I am a senior at Wilson High School in Florence, SC. Like many of my classmates, I have been looking forward to our senior year and all the memorable experiences that come with it. However, this year is missing one crucial event: our homecoming dance.

For generations, the homecoming dance has been a beloved tradition at Wilson High School, a time for students to come together, celebrate school spirit, and create lasting memories. Unfortunately, due to an alumni Basketball match, this cherished event has been canceled. 

The significance of a homecoming dance goes beyond just music and dancing. It is an opportunity for students to bond, reduce stress, and foster a sense of community among peers that we may never have the chance to experience together again. Missing this event means missing a fundamental rite of passage in our high school journey.

We understand that there are challenges to organizing such an event, especially concerning safety and budget constraints. We propose forming a committee of students, parents, and faculty to address these concerns and ensure we can hold a safe, inclusive, and affordable homecoming dance. Nearby venues and local businesses may be enthusiastic partners, offering discounts or in-kind support to make our dream a reality.
