Bring back the Crown Heights Farmers Market
0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!
From Sept. 2011 to the summer of 2014, the Crown Heights Farmers Market brought many people together to get fresh produce nearby for affordable prices - plus customers could use the city's wonderful $2 Health Bucks coupons and use coupons from the federal Farmers Market Nutrition Program and WIC - all which helps everyone - no matter where you live - to get access to good health through getting plentiful nutrient-rich food.
In 2014, Seeds in the Middle had to shut the market, along with three others in high-need neighborhoods of Brooklyn because of lack of funding.
We are thrilled that 287 people signed this petition to bring back the market. We have applied for funding from the City Council. Now, voters must be heard! Please let the elected officials know you want the market and support our funding ask to bring it back. Sign the petition and share with others - all neighbors who want it!
From September 2011 to July 2014, the Crown Heights Farmers Market was held on Thursdays, at the corner of Lefferts Avenue and Albany Avenue, at Hamilton Metz Park - a NYC park.
The day was chosen to ensure that it did not run on anyone's Sabbaths. It was a place where people from every background could come and experience the joys of fresh fruits and vegetables and healthy recipes and exchange their own recipes and tips for delicious, nutritious dishes.
Seeds in the Middle would like to bring back the market in the same area - on a site chosen by the community - perhaps a more traversed street corner or a school community or at the same park.
If you would support our petition for funding, please sign below and share.
Any questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Just for your background, Crown Heights is in central Brooklyn, one of the New York City neighborhoods with the highest obesity, diabetes and heart disease rates. These are diseases that can be prevented if there is enough access to affordable fresh produce. We want to work with the community to ensure their equal and fair rights to a healthy and productive life - plus bring back a very happy, happy place in the neighborhood.
Please sign and give us that chance.
