Once, there was a beloved boulder resting right on Steinway Street, a cornerstone of Astoria's communal joy. This boulder wasn't just an ordinary chunk of rock; it was a canvas for creativity, a backdrop for cherished memories, and a symbol of unity for the community. Kids and adults alike used it as a canvas, chalking colorful artwork and messages on its rugged surface. It became the perfect photo spot, with smiles beaming in thousands of selfies taken in its presence. Small businesses nearby, like Borracho Y Loco Sports Cantina, enjoyed the lively foot traffic it attracted.

But without warning, the boulder disappeared. Its absence has left a void in the hearts of Steinway Street residents and the wider Astoria community. The loss was abrupt and unexplained, leaving many questioning why such a vibrant piece of our community was removed without consultation or notice.

We propose that the Steinway boulder be relocated to Astoria Park, thereby continuing to serve as a beacon of community spirit and happiness. Astoria Park is a community hub, frequented by families, friends, and visitors alike, making it the ideal new home for the boulder. Placing it there would give this remarkable artifact the opportunity to inspire and forge connections once more.

More than simply a piece of nature, the boulder represented a shared, joyful experience. Its return would mean reviving a cherished tradition and reaffirming our community's dedication to inclusivity and creativity. The events surrounding its disappearance highlight a need for community input on matters impacting shared public spaces. We hope that through this petition, local decision-makers will recognize the impact of such moves on community morale and spirit.

Join us in calling on the local authorities to bring back our boulder and place it in Astoria Park, where it can continue to bring people together in a shared space of joy and expression. Sign this petition to help restore a vital piece of Astoria's identity and to keep our community's vibrant spirit alive.
