Bring Back the Battle: Revive GvG in Guild Wars 2!

The Issue

To ArenaNet and the Guild Wars 2 Community:

Guild Wars 2 is a masterpiece in many ways, but for competitive players, there’s one glaring absence: Guild vs. Guild (GvG). This iconic mode, beloved in the original Guild Wars, provided structure, purpose, and prestige to guilds across the community. It was more than just PvP; it was a proving ground for teamwork, strategy, and camaraderie—a cornerstone of what made the franchise special.

This petition is a call to bring GvG back to Guild Wars 2 with competitive ladders, tournaments, and meaningful rewards. We believe it will revitalize the game, attract new players, and give old players a reason to return.

Why GvG Matters
A Proven Concept:
GvG was the heart of competitive play in the original Guild Wars. It provided guilds with purpose and identity, fostering a sense of pride and community. Its absence in Guild Wars 2 has left a void for competitive players who crave structured, high-stakes team gameplay.
Player Demand:
Many players, myself included, know people who refuse to play Guild Wars 2 because it lacks competitive guild-based PvP. I personally know 15-20 former Guild Wars players who would return immediately if GvG were reintroduced. And they are far from alone.
A Catalyst for Resurgence:
GvG could spark a new era for Guild Wars 2. With proper implementation—a ranked ladder system, tournaments, and perhaps even a reimagined Hall of Heroes—GvG could attract attention on platforms like Twitch and YouTube, driving visibility and player engagement.
Filling the Competitive Gap:
While PvE in Guild Wars 2 is nearly perfect, and WvW offers epic large-scale battles, neither WvW nor sPvP scratches the itch for competitive, team-based gameplay. WvW lacks structure, and sPvP feels too small-scale for many guilds. GvG is the perfect solution to bridge the gap, providing a focused, guild-oriented format.
Minimal Risk, Maximum Reward:
ArenaNet already has much of the infrastructure needed for GvG: balanced maps, a PvP ranking system, and a player base hungry for competitive modes. With minimal development effort—modifying existing maps, creating a ranking system, and adding incentives—GvG could be implemented without the need to build from scratch.

What We’re Asking For
We urge ArenaNet to:

Develop a GvG Mode: Dedicated maps and mechanics for guild-based PvP.
Introduce Ranked Ladders: Allow guilds to compete for top spots and glory.
Create Tournaments: Regular events to highlight the best players and guilds.
Incentivize Participation: Rewards, achievements, and recognition in a Hall of Heroes or similar feature.

Why This Matters Now
The MMO market is more competitive than ever. Player retention and growth depend on unique, compelling experiences. GvG is not just a nostalgic wish—it’s a tangible opportunity to reinvigorate Guild Wars 2 and secure its place in the MMO community for years to come.

Competitive modes bring visibility and energy to games. Look at how other MMOs thrive on competitive scenes—it’s time for Guild Wars 2 to do the same. GvG would give players a reason to log in, guilds a reason to recruit, and the entire community a reason to rally.

My Pledge as a Player
I am not just asking for change—I am committed to making it happen. I will continue to rally support for GvG, organize my guild and others, and show ArenaNet that this idea is worth their time and resources. I believe GvG could be the key to a resurgence in Guild Wars 2 like we haven’t seen before.

Together, we can bring back the competitive spirit that defined Guild Wars.
