Picture this: you are a middle school student in class and your classmates are being loud. You would rather be anywhere than at school. You want to escape, so you plug in your earbuds and open your Chromebook only to find that Spotify is blocked. This happens to hundreds of Plainfield students every day! We are treated poorly in this facility and we have already had so many of our favorite things taken away from us. Why did Spotify even get blocked in the first place? Spotify may have inappropriate words and content, but the students are going to be listening with headphones, so no one else will hear. Every student has been exposed to foul language already, and the students should be in control of what they listen to. Spotify may also have podcasts, but the teachers can monitor what the students are doing to ensure that no students are listening to podcasts. Spotify has audiobooks, too, but audiobooks could be beneficial to students or act as an alternative to paper books, which students are told to read in their free time. In addition, some people need music to focus. Unblocking Spotify could help them. All in all, Spotify poses no problems to the school environment, so it should be allowed.
