I’m not an advocate of e-learning for elementary-age children. In my experience, it can add stress for parents and students, and it often requires significant adult support at home. While many teachers work incredibly hard to make it successful, I don’t believe Chromebooks and online learning should replace the fundamentals—especially in the early grades.
We need balance. I want children developing critical-thinking skills through high-quality, in-class instruction, along with worksheets, assignments, and handwritten work—not more screen time. For anyone interested in this topic, I also encourage you to look into The Digital Delusion by Dr. Jared Cooney Horvath.
As Dr. Horvath states "We gave students laptops and took away their brains."
