Bring Back Science For 6th Graders

Bring Back Science For 6th Graders
The Issue
Beginning January 12th 2024, the Denver charter school network of Rocky Mountain Prep has removed 6th grade science entirely from it's Federal campus, and has removed science or social studies from its other campuses. Since these are semester-long classes, this means that half of all 6th graders enrolled in this school system will not be taking science or social studies at all for the 23/24 academic year.
This is in direct violation of Colorado state law C.R.S. 22-33-104 (2)(b) which states that "a basic education shall include, but not be limited to, communication skills of reading, writing, and speaking, mathematics, history, civics, literature, and science."
The elimination of science and social studies from these schools has additionally resulted in the former teachers of those subjects now teaching subjects that they are not endorsed in. Again, this is in direct violation of Colorado law.
Donations to this campaign to bring science and social studies back to RMP are not necessary, but if contributed will either go towards legal fees (should they become necessary) or be returned to the donors.
