On March 1st, Jaden Jess Pienta was murdered at Montgomery High School is Santa Rosa, after he and another student entered a classroom to start a fight. The victim of the fight, presented a knife and stabbed Jaden and his friend, ultimately leading to the death of Jaden.

After the political controversy and negative view of police departments in 2020, the Santa Rosa City School board voted to suspend the School Resource Officer Program so students can feel safer at school.

SRPD Police Chief John Cregan told the Press Democrat that 945 calls for service at SRCS campuses in the 2022 calendar year, and specifically 97 calls at Montgomery High School.

After the murder of Jaden Pienta, shooting threats at Maria Carrillo, firearms on campus, and arson, SRCS families, faculty, and most importantly STUDENTS are calling for the return of Resource Officers to our school campuses.

These officers will act as a communication point between students, faculty, and fellow officers. These officers will be respected and well trained. They will follow faculty to any reports of crime on campus, and will work with administrators to deem consequences as they and the law are fit.
