First of all, I want to thank each of you for your incredible support. I couldn’t be more grateful for your help in advocating for access to an Oxford alumni email address.

When I first created this petition, my understanding, based on the information available online, was that the email forwarding service for alumni had been completely discontinued, and that creating alumni email accounts was no longer possible for recent graduates (i.e., limited to legacy users, as stated on the Alumni webpages).

However, after some lengthy back-and-forth communication with the Alumni Office, I learned that an email forwarding service is now available. I was provided a link to register for an account to set this up. To my surprise, the link also provided me the opportunity to request an Oxford Alumni email address -- it seems like this service was likely newly re-instated, which i'm assuming based on the language used regarding a newly available "free trial of a professional (pro) level account" which expires in March 2025 (I wonder if the petition played a role in this? Not sure though!). To clarify, the email address options you can choose from include several different domains like @oxfordalumni.org, @oxon.org, or even dept/college-specific addresses (e.g., @univ.oxon.org or @sbs.oxfordalumni.org). You are able to choose a free account (but it's limited to 200mb of storage), or a paid account (ranging from £10-40 per year for additional storage space).

I followed the process myself, registered on the link they provided, and was able to successfully create an alumni email address which is now fully functional (which will likely require the necessary manual approvals to fully activate it). To test further, I shared this information with a few friends. While some of their requests are still pending approval, a few received immediate rejections. This inconsistency leaves me unsure whether the service is universally available or limited to specific cases only.

If you’re an Oxford alum, I encourage you to try registering for an account and requesting an alumni email address by inputting your relevant details (which will require subsequent manual approval). It would be immensely helpful if you could leave a comment or let me know if it works for you or if you encounter any issues.

For now, I’m keeping this petition open to ensure we fully understand the scope of this service and its availability to Oxford alumni. If it becomes clear that this works for everyone, I will happily close the petition and declare victory. I will also ask the Alumni office to kindly update their webpages accordingly so that the actual list of services available are clearly provided to all alumni.
