Bring Back Nonstop Flights Between London and Manila! 🇬🇧🇵🇭

Calling on British Airways and Philippine Airlines to restore nonstop flights between the United Kingdom and the Philippines.

For thousands of families, couples, tourists and business travellers, the connection between the United Kingdom and the Philippines is about far more than air travel. It is about reuniting with loved ones, maintaining family relationships, supporting businesses and strengthening ties between two nations.

Yet today, passengers travelling between London and Manila have no scheduled nonstop flight option.

Instead, travellers must connect through international hubs such as Doha, Dubai, Singapore or Hong Kong, adding hours to already lengthy journeys and introducing the inconvenience of layovers, airport transfers and potential missed connections.

We believe it is time to bring back nonstop flights between London Heathrow (LHR) and Manila (MNL).

Why This Matters to Me

As a British citizen with a Filipino partner, travelling between the United Kingdom and the Philippines is an important part of our lives.

We have experienced the long journeys involved in visiting the Philippines, including international connections followed by additional domestic flights to reach our final destination.

What should be an exciting journey to reunite with family can become exhausting and unnecessarily complicated.

And we are far from alone.

Across the UK, British-Filipino couples, Filipino families, tourists and business travellers face similar journeys. For elderly passengers, families with young children and people with reduced mobility, connecting flights can be particularly challenging.

This campaign is not simply about making one person’s journey easier. It is about improving travel for everyone who shares a connection between our two countries.

A Route Worth Reconsidering

Nonstop flights between London and Manila are not a new idea.

Philippine Airlines previously operated nonstop services between London Heathrow and Manila, beginning in 2013, before the route was discontinued.

British Airways also historically served Manila, although its previous services involved an intermediate stop.

Modern long-haul aircraft are capable of operating between London and Manila nonstop. The question is whether today’s passenger demand and commercial conditions could support the return of a sustainable service.

We believe that question deserves serious consideration.

The potential market extends beyond London and Manila alone.

Passengers from across the United Kingdom could connect through London, while travellers arriving in Manila may continue onwards to destinations such as Cebu, Davao, Butuan, Iloilo and many other cities throughout the Philippines.

A nonstop service could offer opportunities for family travel, tourism, business connections and onward journeys through existing airline networks.

The Benefits of Nonstop Flights

Restoring this connection could:

Reunite families more easily: Make journeys to visit parents, children, partners and loved ones more convenient.
Reduce travel times: Eliminate the need for an international connection and potentially save passengers several hours.
Improve accessibility: Make travel easier for elderly passengers, families with young children and those with reduced mobility.
Support tourism: Encourage more visitors to explore the Philippines and the United Kingdom.
Strengthen business links: Improve convenience for professionals, investors and businesses operating between the two countries.
Increase passenger choice: Give travellers an alternative to connecting services through other international hubs.
Our Request to British Airways and Philippine Airlines

We recognise that operating a long-haul airline route requires significant investment and careful commercial planning.

We are not asking airlines to launch an unprofitable service.

We are asking British Airways and Philippine Airlines to formally investigate the feasibility of restoring nonstop London–Manila flights.

Specifically, we call upon both airlines to:

Assess passenger demand between the United Kingdom and the Philippines, including passengers travelling onwards beyond Manila.
Evaluate the commercial viability of year-round or seasonal nonstop services, including the possibility of initially operating a limited weekly schedule.
Consider suitable long-haul aircraft and the operational requirements of reinstating this route.
Explore opportunities with Heathrow Airport and relevant aviation authorities, while also considering London Gatwick if it offers a more practical alternative.
Engage with this campaign and provide a formal response, explaining whether the route could be considered within future network-planning discussions.
Turning Public Support Into Meaningful Evidence

This campaign aims to achieve more than simply collecting signatures.

Alongside this petition, we intend to gather passenger survey responses to better understand how frequently people travel between the UK and the Philippines, their preferred airports, their likelihood of choosing nonstop services and how much they would be willing to pay.

Our intention is to present these findings to British Airways, Philippine Airlines and relevant aviation stakeholders as evidence of potential passenger demand.

We understand that signatures alone cannot establish whether a route would be profitable. However, we believe that genuine public interest, supported by meaningful passenger research, can help demonstrate why this opportunity deserves further investigation.

Two Nations. One Important Connection.

The United Kingdom and the Philippines share important connections through families, communities, tourism, employment, education and international business.

For many travellers, the Philippines is not simply a holiday destination. It is home to parents, children, partners, relatives and loved ones.

Restoring nonstop flights would be more than adding another destination to an airline’s route network.

It could make family reunions easier, improve international accessibility and strengthen connections between our countries.

We are asking British Airways and Philippine Airlines to listen to passengers, examine the opportunity and seriously consider bringing back nonstop London–Manila flights.
