Bring back Nickelodeon and Nick Jr as separate channels on Sky TV in New Zealand
The issue
New Zealand has often been left out when it comes to television programming, and this time, we’re feeling the pinch with the closure of certain beloved channels. Most recently, Nickelodeon and Nick Jr, which have been treasured parts of New Zealand households for years, have been shuttered on Sky TV. Now, we are stuck with Sky Kids, a hybrid channel that overwhelmingly leans towards Nick Jr programming over Nickelodeon. This change has resulted in limited variety for families who’ve enjoyed the full spectrum of children’s programming especially between the ages of 6-12.
Meanwhile, Cartoon Network, another major player in children’s entertainment, has also closed down in new Zealand. The timing couldn’t have been worse, leaving fans of shows like 'Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles', who anticipated the release of season 2, empty-handed. We are one of the few countries missing out on this content, and despite being a progressive nation, we are also among the only non-anti-gay countries missing out on big holiday premires like 'A Loud House christmas movie naughty or nice and even cut off a premiere week for their latest show wylde pak
The lack of these diverse viewing options not only impacts children but also disheartens families looking for inclusive content, hindering New Zealand's television diversity. this change has also increased the amont of cancelations of the sky platform and sky hasn't even reduced the price cause of said changes and cutting corners.
We call on Sky TV New Zealand and paramount skydance to bring back Nickelodeon and Nick Jr as separate channels, reinstating the variety we cherish. Alternatively, we urge the launch of Paramount+ in New Zealand to ensure we get access to the programming we deserve legally. By taking these steps, we ensure that New Zealand is not left behind in the global media landscape, providing our children with the diverse, inclusive programming they love and need probably even more if luxon considers a social media ban similar to Australia
Please join us in this cause to bring better variety of children's television programming in New Zealand for a richer and more inclusive viewing experience for all. Sign this petition to voice your support for these crucial changes.
