The purpose of this petition is to bring back the "Empire State" gold license plate design for the state of New York. This design began in 2010, reminiscent of the 70s design, but was phased out and replaced in 2020 with a bland, lackluster design.

In the vote were three (dull) Lady Liberty designs, and a fourth (dull) Niagara Falls and city skyline growing-from-the-bottom-like-moss design. These four all looked the same from afar. The fifth design would look different, having a grey tint, and featuring the (formerly Tappan Zee) Gov. Mario Cuomo Bridge. Regardless of this apparent effort to split the vote between four slightly different designs and Cuomo's Bridge, the fourth design won, leaving the Cuomo Bridge design in last place, and the 3 Lady Liberties in middle'th place. As a result of this design effort focused into 5 different directions, one or more of them done half-heartedly in a purposely ugly manner by the design team, we are left with the new winner plate for the state of New York: Excelsior.

The only purpose of this petition is to bring back Empire Gold to the cars of New York. I believe it is the best, most iconic design for NY: when people think of the NY license plate, they think Empire Gold. No need for the crowded, clumsy clip art of the new Excelsior design.
