It’s no secret that there is a fascination among our society when it comes to crime tv. Series like Law & Order and CSI have long been staples in American households, but then came Criminal Minds, which gave us a look into the thinking of murderers and psychopaths. But where did it all begin? Insert: MINDHUNTER. With a rating of 8.6/10 from IMDb and 97% from Rotten Tomatoes, it immediately became one of the highest-ranking crime series ever made. People who weren’t even crime fanatics were obsessed with having a deeper understanding of who wrote the book on behavioral psychology relating to serial killers.  

MINDHUNTER does a phenomenal job of taking us back to the golden age of serial killers, when men like Ted Bundy began changing the way we thought about our own safety. It was more than the perfect crime series, it took us into the personal lives of the detectives and psychologists that had to study unspeakable violent acts against people to understand them, and more importantly, to catch them. They were scrutinized, ridiculed, and laughed at while having to sit side by side with the men that made the rest of our skin crawl. This series brought all of that to light. It highlighted their efforts and undying devotion to keep the rest of us safe, even though none of us knew they existed. 

As season 2 came to an end, we were all on the edge of our seats waiting for season 3. What insight would it bring? What advancements were being made as more serial killers were interviewed? How was it impacting the lives of these detectives? But then, the unthinkable happened. Season 3 would not be coming. Our beloved show was canceled. One of the highest-ranking crime series ever made was canceled. How could this be? Rumors began to surface that it was too expensive to continue, but there must be a way to bring it back for season 3. At the very least, give us one more season to bring the series to a close. We ask that Netflix please view the signatures on this petition and understand that MINDHUNTER is a profoundly missed series.
