Ever since the boiler certificate expired 2020, The sole surviving LNER B12 #8572/61572 was withdrawn for an overhaul. However, In December 2023 it was disclosed that cost of the overhaul had increased by £60,000 as it was discovered that new cylinder liners and wheel tyres were required. It was also revealed that cylinders would need re-boring but after being stripped down it was found that there was not enough metal left to allow the corrective work required which necessitated a complete replacement. So if we take action now, we can help raise enough money to bring 8572 back into steam again, long enough for it's centenary in 2028.
