Legendary was a television series produced by HBOMax featuring members of the NYC Ballroom scene as they showcased their talents as choreographers, creative directors, and fashion designers by competing in balls judged by esteemed celebrities in the LGTBQ+ community.

This show was ground-breaking and uplifted the world of Ball culture. Not only did Legendary provide platforms for current members of the queer community to showcase their voguing and creative talents, claiming their place in Ballroom’s increasingly white-washed representations, the show refused to make a mockery of Ballroom’s history as a space created by Black and Brown queer + trans communities to safely celebrate themselves amongst their chosen family, otherwise known as their House. 

Cancelling this show is not only wrong, given its success and cultural relevance amongst a wide international fanbase, but it is also an example of how HBO and HBOMax are willing to discard the very productions that brought people who’d long been dissatisfied with the overwhelmingly white + cisheteronormative shows on the platform to sign up for the service in the first place. 

Do the right thing for once HBO and #BringBackLegendary.
