Bring back a late night bus route to Waterloo!  

Before the pandemic in 2019, there was a bus route (the 7) that ran until 3 am, connecting a loop around campus to uptown Waterloo via King Street. Today, it is impossible to get around the city by public transit past midnight.

People need safe and affordable ways to get around, whether that's home after a long day of studying or a night out. The discontinuation of these services has greatly impacted us - students who contribute significantly to local businesses and cultural vibrancy in Waterloo. According to Statistics Canada (2016), there are over 36,000 post-secondary students in Waterloo Region – all potential users of late-night transit service.

Since the pandemic, ridership numbers have skyrocketed. In September 2023, 150,000 people boarded buses and the ION each day.

This petition, directed at the Region of Waterloo Planning & Works Committee, is asking Council to bring back this vital night bus service in time for the Fall 2024 semester.
