Bring back Herotopia as Herotopia Reborn

The Issue

Herotopia was a Flash-based MMORPG created by American developer Herotainment, an award-winning transmedia and entertainment company and creator of the highly popular Smighties brand. The game's focus deals on a young group of superheroes that must deal with a gang called the Bully Bunch that is planning to play pranks such as defacing the Statue of Liberty in New York City. Herotopia let's younger players create their own avatars and choose a super power that they will use throughout the game. Gameplay consists of the user traveling throughout the world like New York, Paris, Beijing and the North Pole seeking out clues and games that utilize foreign language, reading skills, and geography. It also let's users create their own super hideout.

Herotopia was first announced in 2010 by its creators Brian Krauss, and Wade and Caryn Temanas as a way to help children learn different ways to deal with bullies. A year later, the game was re-released in 2011, with Peter Cuneo investing in the game. As of 2019, the game appears to be taken offline, though no official statement from Herotainment, LLC and British video game developer and publisher Jagex since the game appears to be taken offline. Even though if you go to herotopia.com, it will redirect to a GoDaddy page.

The original critically-acclaimed Herotopia was positively received, it received a positive review by Common Sense Media, who gave it high ratings for its positive messages and easy game play. Herotopia also won a Gold National Parenting Publications Awards for offering "kids a rich and engaging world for them to become their ultimate Superheroes". Stripes.com also positively reviewed the game, writing that the "game play, quests and games were fun and well suited for the 6-12 age range that the developers are aiming for" but that the music was "a bit repetitive"

As of now 2026, we want kids and Herotopia fans to bring back the kid-friendly MMORPG game serving as a soft reboot/sequel/continuation of Herotopia titled Herotopia Reborn. Herotopia Reborn was going to be an HTML5-based MMORPG rather than a Flash-based MMORPG like the original Herotopia did. This kid-friendly, HTML5-based MMORPG game Herotopia Reborn was going to be an improvement. The game will have new heroes, new villains, new worlds (Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Detroit. Seattle, Cleveland, Las Vegas, Nashville, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Santa Monica, Malibu, Laguna Beach, Beverly Hills, Waikiki (Honolulu, Hawaii), Washington D.C., Baltimore, Bridgeport, Hoboken, Toronto, Vancouver, British Columbia, London (Ontario, Montreal), Montreal, Quebec City, London (England), Barcelona, Rome, Venice, Sydney, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro and Mexico City) that expands from New York, Paris, China, North Pole, Herotopia Island and the Smighties Playground, new powers and new features.

Herotopia Reborn lets users create your own avatar (boy, girl, baby or animal) with more costumes (from street clothes (like jeans and shorts to boots and sneakers) to hero suits to masks (with or without) and gloves (particularly with gloves and/or fingerless gloves/without gloves aka bare hands)) and choose more powers than the original Herotopia did, with the addition of creating your own costume in the Costume Maker. The gameplay consists of the user traveling throughout not only New York, Paris, and Beijing, as well as the North Pole, but added more worlds (like Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Tokyo, etc.) and seeking out more clues and games that utilize foreign language, reading skills, geography, etc.. The game also has more minigames which are also HTML5-based instead of Flash like the original Herotopia, as well as creating a super hideout with the addition of new items that you can customize your very own super hero hideout. They also added The Smighties Channel where you can watch videos for a younger audience.

This title of this HTML5-based MMORPG titled Herotopia Reborn was to avoid confusion with the 2015-16 TV miniseries Heroes Reborn, a continuation of the NBC superhero TV show Heroes. Coincidentally, some people thought the title of this soft reboot sequel to Herotopia titled Herotopia Reborn is similar to those of Joseph Kosinski-directed soft reboot sequels like Tron: Legacy (2010) and Top Gun: Maverick (2022), as well as soft reboot continuations in video games like the mature-rated God of War (2018) and Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time (2020).

The synopsis stated: "The developers of the original Herotopia bring you... ...the most superheroes on the planet. Return. In an epic display of... Speed. Power. And Courage. The Bully Bunch are back along with their new fearsome foes that planned to play pranks such as defacing around the world! Now... ...Rock Freely and his superheroic friends returns and teaming up with new heroes, each with new different powers to save the world from new evils. But that's not all, Rock and the heroic team must rescue the Smighties and save the day."

But please, sign the petition to bring back Herotopia called Herotopia Reborn both kids and Herotopia fans alike. #BringBackHerotopia #HerotopiaReborn
