The issue

I am a local small business owner passionately invested in the wellness of our community. The recent decision by our city council to change the location of this very popular yearly event, cherished by our local community, has deeply impacted scenarios for local businesses like me. This event wasn't just about fun and festivity, but it was a key driver for foot traffic to our local shopping precincts, supporting several small businesses.

In these challenging times, such events play a crucial role in driving economic activity; many similar communities have reported an uptick of 10-50% in small business earnings during such local events .

The council's decision to change the location of the Firelight Event, from John Street to the Civic Centre, could potentially lead to a significant drop in revenue, hampering the livelihood of small business owners on John Street.

We believe that with proper planning and small businesses at the forefront , such events can be conducted benefiting everyone in town and efficiently, benefiting everyone involved.

Therefore, we kindly urge the council to reconsider their decision. Let's work together to balance the economic implications and bring this much needed foot traffic to our Main Street.  With this in place ensuring the community spirit, the fun vibe and the support of our local community. Please sign this petition, stand with our local businesses and show the council the significance of these community-based events to our livelihoods and unity.
