Bring Back Balanced Animations in Mario Party Games
Bring Back Balanced Animations in Mario Party Games
Das Problem
Dear Nintendo,
The Mario Party series has always been about fostering fun and fairness, bringing friends and family together for unforgettable moments filled with joy and laughter. A key element that contributed to this unique charm in previous games, such as Mario Party 9 and Super Mario Party, was the balanced animation system. This system ensured that at the end of minigames or boards, the top half of players (e.g., 1st and 2nd place in a four-player game) would display happy reactions, while the bottom half (e.g., 3rd and 4th place) would show sad reactions. It was a small but impactful feature that encouraged a sense of fairness, rewarded effort, and allowed all players to feel engaged, even in competitive scenarios.
In Super Mario Party Jamboree, this sense of balance was unfortunately replaced with a system where only one character is happy at the end of minigames or boards, regardless of the players’ placements. This means that even players who place 2nd or otherwise performed well are left with sad reactions, which feels both unfair and disheartening. While this may seem like a minor detail, it fundamentally alters the atmosphere of the game, taking away from the sense of camaraderie and shared joy that has always been a hallmark of the Mario Party series.
We believe that an important part of what made Mario Party so beloved is the way it struck a balance between fun competition and inclusivity, making sure that everyone felt like a part of the experience, no matter their skill level. The new animation system detracts from this and risks alienating players who might already find it challenging to win consistently.
We propose a solution that could satisfy all players: introducing an option in future Mario Party games to enable or disable the balanced animation system. This could be implemented as a simple setting in the game’s menu, managed by characters like the yellow Toad in Super Mario Party Jamboree. A new menu option titled "Animations" would allow players to toggle between the classic balanced animation style and the current approach. Such a feature would cater to both long-time fans who cherish the legacy of the older system and newer players who might prefer the modern design.
Adding this option would not only respect the legacy of Mario Party, but it would also ensure that the series continues to appeal to its diverse and passionate player base. By giving players more control over how they experience the game, Nintendo would demonstrate its commitment to listening to the community and delivering the fun and fairness that Mario Party is known for.
We, the undersigned, are asking for this small yet meaningful feature to be considered in future Mario Party titles. Let’s work together to keep Mario Party a game that everyone can enjoy—no matter their placement.
Thank you for your time, and we hope you will consider our proposal.
Sincerely,
Markus Hofmann
