Bring Back a Real Ram as Fordham's Mascot

The Issue

Fordham University holds a special place in my heart, especially because of a tradition known among students as the "Fordham Red Cup." So many of us have fond memories tied to this university, and Ramses the Ram, our celebrated mascot, is an integral part of those recollections.

Back in the days, Fordham's spirit and identity were represented by a real-life ram, a tradition that echoed pride and connection to our school’s roots. Seeing a live ram on campus brought a sense of authenticity and excitement to every event, making alumni and students alike feel more connected to the history and spirit of Fordham. Beaumont Hall's echo of our cheer was complemented by the sight of a live ram, symbolizing the strength and resilience of Fordham’s community.

Ramses wasn’t just a symbol, but a beloved figure that fostered school spirit and camaraderie. For current and future students to fully experience what Fordham stands for, bringing back a real-life version of Ramses could continue fostering these invaluable connections amongst students, alumni, and the surrounding community.

Implementing a live ram mascot is entirely feasible. With local farms and animal care experts available in our vicinity, maintaining the well-being of a real ram, perhaps through partnerships with regional animal sanctuaries or affiliated agricultural programs, is entirely practical. We can ensure a safe and healthy environment for our new mascot, aligning with ethical standards and animal welfare regulations.

This initiative goes beyond mere nostalgia; it’s about upholding university tradition and reconnecting with the true essence of being a Fordham Ram. A live mascot represents the vivacity, courage, and commitment that each student carries with them throughout their lives.

Let's bring back this cherished tradition and rejuvenate our community spirit. We envision home games, rallies, and events filled with new and vibrant memories, sustaining Fordham’s legacy for generations to come. Please support this campaign by signing and sharing this petition to bring back a live ram as Fordham University's mascot!
