Bring Baby Box(es) To Cook County

Bring Baby Box(es) To Cook County
The Issue
In a 2016 article, in the United States, about 150 babies are abandoned each year in creeks, along roadsides, and in trash cans. Out of 50 states, only 5 states have baby boxes. In 2019, Cook County's population was 5.15 million people, and this has only increased since. 30% of American girls will get pregnant at least once before age 20. That's nearly 750,000 teen pregnancies every year. Why am I giving you all of these statistics? Because I am not only trying to give the baby a better life, but also give the mother a better life too. How can we do this? By giving Cook County a baby box. A baby box is a place where people can bring babies, usually newborn, and abandon them anonymously in a safe place to be found and cared for.
Baby boxes cost between $10,000 and $15,000 if everybody in Cook County paid $1, just $1 extra dollar- Cook County could have thousands of baby boxes. We do not need thousands of baby boxes, but my point is it won't be a financial strain to the county. I think there should be at least one baby box in every county, but for now, let's start with Cook County!!!
I believe if we get five thousand signatures, we will have a strong enough voice to bring up this issue to Toni Preckwinkle, the Cook County Board President, and have our voices be heard!
