Our senior year at Abington Senior High School was supposed to be a time filled with excitement and memories, but it has sadly transformed into something else entirely. The administration has decided to make several changes to the school schedule that have profoundly affected us, the senior class. Key events and activities that many of us eagerly anticipated have been canceled. This was supposed to be our time to celebrate years of hard work and look forward to our futures, but that opportunity is slipping away.

The administration's response to concerns about student safety has been less about creating a genuinely secure environment and more about restricting our freedom within the school. We find ourselves being forced into specific areas of the building, making us feel as though our school days are now spent in a type of prison. This approach follows last year’s incidents where the school struggled with ensuring student safety.

Instead of addressing the root causes and implementing effective safety protocols, the school has opted for a strategy that limits student movement and drains the joy and vitality from our senior year. This is not the solution we need; it’s merely a quick fix that doesn’t address underlying issues.

We are proposing that Abington Senior High School reconsider these drastic schedule changes and explore alternative solutions that truly prioritize student safety without undermining the quality of our educational and social experience. We demand that the school take urgent action to involve students, teachers, and parents in the discussion about safety and the alteration of our schedules. Collaborative efforts can lead to solutions that improve safety and student experience. It is critical that the administration listens to the voices of those directly affected by these changes: the student body.
