Bring Awareness and Support Measures for PMDD Sufferers to Parliament
The Issue
As a PMDD sufferer, I have spent years grappling with cyclical depression that rendered me unable to function for approximately 10 days each month. Experiencing severe symptoms such as anger, irritability, physical pain, depression, and thoughts of suicide, has even led to the involvement of social services and an ongoing struggle to preserve my full rights as a parent. Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD), which affects 5-10% of women of reproductive age (Source: The International Association for Premenstrual Disorders), is a debilitating condition that wreaks havoc on the lives of countless women. Yet, it remains largely under-diagnosed, misunderstood and overlooked. We need our government to acknowledge the detrimental effect of PMDD on women, particularly those in motherhood, and to establish support in the form of mental health services, care support and PMDD sufferers hubs. It's time to provide accommodations for women battling this affliction and ensure they receive the understanding and assistance necessary for their wellbeing and that of their families. Please, sign this petition to drive awareness and incite action for PMDD suffers in Parliament.
