Bring an all-abilities Magical Bridge Park to Hollister
The Issue
Hollister families deserve a place where children and adults of all abilities can play, connect, and belong.
For families in our special needs community, truly inclusive recreational spaces can be difficult to find. Many families travel outside Hollister to visit playgrounds designed for people with physical, developmental, sensory, and other disabilities. We believe our community deserves that opportunity here at home.
And Hollister has already taken an important first step.
The City of Hollister 2040 General Plan, adopted in April 2026, includes Action CSF-6.5: All-Abilities Playground, directing the City to develop and adopt a plan to create an all-abilities playground.
We are asking our community to show its support for turning that commitment into reality.
Our vision is to work collaboratively with the City of Hollister, community leaders, residents, potential funding partners, and the Magical Bridge Foundation to explore the development of a Magical Bridge-style all-abilities park in Hollister.
Our goals include:
Working with the City to identify an appropriate location and determine the steps necessary to move an all-abilities playground forward.
Learning from the Magical Bridge Foundation and its experience developing inclusive parks.
Identifying grants, partnerships, sponsorships, and other potential funding opportunities.
Ensuring that families and individuals with disabilities have a meaningful voice throughout the planning process. The need for inclusive spaces is significant. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 1 in 31 8-year-old children in its latest surveillance data were identified with autism spectrum disorder. More than 1 in 4 U.S. adults have some type of disability.
An all-abilities park is not just a playground for people with disabilities. It is a community space where children, adults, siblings, parents, grandparents, and friends can participate together.
