Bring a walkable grocery store to Oakland, Pittsburgh

The Issue

Oakland residents currently lack walkable access to real groceries. The recent closures of the Rite Aid stores at 209 Atwood Street and 3700 Forbes Avenue leave two vacant retail spaces — a rare opportunity to bring a grocery store or supermarket to our neighborhood.

We want a place where residents, healthcare workers, and Pitt students can buy fresh produce, dairy, meat, and everyday essentials. A grocery store here would make daily life easier, healthier, and more convenient for the thousands of people who live, work, and study in Oakland.

This petition is meant to show documented community demand and is shared with brokers of vacant Oakland properties, planners, and potential grocery operators to help attract a walkable grocery to the neighborhood.

Sign this petition to show your support for turning these empty stores into grocery stores or markets — spaces our community can actually rely on. Every signature brings us one step closer to making healthy, accessible food a reality in Oakland.
