The Issue

Mishawaka has a strong skateboarding community, but once winter hits, local skaters are left with no safe place to ride. Snow, ice, and freezing temperatures make outdoor parks unusable for months at a time. It’s time for a solution that supports our youth, local businesses, and community year-round.

We are calling on the City of Mishawaka to explore the creation of a seasonal indoor skatepark that would operate during the colder months and close in the summer, when residents can take advantage of the city’s free outdoor skateparks.

Why This Matters

🏂 Safe Winter Recreation
An indoor skatepark provides a safe, supervised place for youth and adults to stay active during the fall and winter, keeping them engaged in a positive, healthy outlet.

❄️ Seasonal & Cost-Conscious
Operating seasonally allows the facility to stay open when it’s needed most and close during summer, reducing overhead costs while encouraging use of existing outdoor parks.

💰 Revenue-Generating Opportunity
Unlike traditional parks, an indoor skatepark can help fund itself through:

Day passes and memberships
Food vendors or concessions
A small on-site skate shop
Lessons, camps, and competitions

These features can help offset costs, support local jobs, and reinvest in the community.

🏙️ Economic & Community Growth
A professionally designed indoor skatepark would attract skaters from surrounding cities, boosting local businesses and positioning Mishawaka as a regional destination during winter months.

🛠️ Proven Design & Safety
Cities across the country have seen success partnering with experienced skatepark designers such as Team Pain Skate Parks, whose professionally built facilities are known for safety, durability, and high community use.

⭐ A Unique Regional Attraction
This could become the only indoor skatepark in the region, giving Mishawaka a one-of-a-kind facility that serves residents and visitors alike.
