The Issue

Washington County is one of the fastest-growing areas in Utah, yet our community lacks a public ice rink to serve youth, families, and recreational athletes.

A public ice rink would provide a safe, healthy, and inclusive space for:

  • Youth hockey and learn-to-skate programs
  • Figure skating and recreational skating
  • Adaptive and special-needs ice sports
  • School teams, leagues, and community and church events
  • Year-round recreation during extreme summer heat

Families in Washington County currently must travel long distances to access ice facilities, limiting participation and placing unnecessary strain on time and resources. Many Utah communities similar or smaller in size have successfully built ice rinks through public-private partnerships, phased development, or multi-use recreation centers.

A local ice rink would:

  • Promote physical activity and youth development
  • Strengthen community engagement
  • Support organized sports and after-school programs
  • Create economic activity through tournaments, events, and tourism
  • Add a high-value recreational amenity for a growing population

We respectfully ask Washington County to study, plan, and pursue the development of a public ice rink or ice sports facility as part of the county’s recreational infrastructure.

By signing this petition, we are showing clear community interest and support for this type of space and encouraging county leaders to take the next steps toward making it a reality.

Please sign this petition to show your support for a public ice rink in Washington County and help bring this important community resource to life.
