Bring a pet pig to Seckman High as our mascot & friend.
The Issue
I've been in the seckman district for years now, and I've noticed a common talking point is having a mascot. Now of course, we have a mascot, but a real one, the groundhog of groundhog day type of mascot. Now I know a pig may seem wild for a school, but by Missouri's standards its not far fetched. Its proven that having a mascot can boost student morale. going from person to person, lots of people are missing morale. Even past that, lots are not excited to be part of seckman and the culture. This could change that, our school could stand out on a map, stand out on articles and bring in new people.
Legal, and moral.
Legally, in Missouri, having a pet pig is completely legal, and furthermore, the requirements to keep the animal are not hard, and very feasible by the community we built up in seckman. Morally, as a community, we would take care of this animal. It Is not high maintenance, and would only require feeding twice a day, which could be done by many of the clubs or classes in the school. If not, I, as the lead of this project, would be more than willing to tend to his (or her) needs.
Class participation
We could include the student body through multiple ways. The main idea is the naming, the name would be a huge part of it, and a fair & fun way to decide the name would be through a paid ballot. Why paid? A animal is not free. If each student could put in 2 dollars per a ballot, not only would you get to help decide the name, but you would be the main backbone of paying for the animal.
Where?
To break up where, a pig has to be a certain space away from homes, and more than that, it requires a 6x6 feet enclosure, and a 50 feet running space, with a strict fence. This space may seem large, but there is multiple places you could put it.
Why should you sign / participate.
We need people. How can you help? Sign, forward to your friends, people you know, HOWEVER, it is important to not treat this as a spam. Give it your friend, let your friend give it to their friends, and so on. It is important for this to be a consensual, non spam email, as this could harm or hurt the movement. As a student body, it should be fairly obvious by now that we do not have the largest impact on the school, and for lots of reasons that is fair. however, helping me make this dream real could be a step in the right direction. I will put my name on it, if it doesn't go through, or it wont work, etc, I will take accountability, I will figure out how to fix it. I will accept fault if by some way the idea is trouble, I will worry about the planning and funding, all I ask is that you give a yes. Not a yes to me, but a yes to a pig.
