The Issue

As a concerned parent, I have watched my children and their friends navigate the city of McAllen with their bicycles, longing for a safe and designated area to develop their biking skills. Like many other parents, I believe that a bicycle pump track would be a valuable asset to our community. Currently, there are no pump tracks available, leaving our kids to practice on sidewalks, streets, and other potentially dangerous areas.

Pump tracks are closed-loop bicycle circuits that feature a variety of rollers and banked turns, promoting skill-building, fitness, and fun in a contained environment. These tracks cater to riders of all skill levels and encourage an active lifestyle while minimizing risks associated with biking in less controlled settings.

Aside from providing a safe environment for children to ride, a pump track can become a vibrant community hub where families gather to watch their children play and develop. It fosters social interactions, encourages physical activity, and can even attract visitors, boosting local businesses.

Studies show that cycling facilities like pump tracks significantly enhance the quality of life in a community. According to a report by IMBA, urban areas with cycling infrastructure see an increase in physical wellness, a decrease in transportation costs, and even a rise in property values.

The city of McAllen prides itself on being family-friendly and environmentally conscious. Creating a bicycle pump track aligns perfectly with these values. It not only benefits current residents but also sets an example for future health and eco-friendly initiatives.

Let's urge the McAllen City Council to invest in our children's safety and well-being by building a bicycle pump track in our city. Together, we can provide our kids with a safe place to enhance their biking skills while fostering community spirit. Please sign this petition to make a bicycle pump track in McAllen a reality.
