Reopen Madeira Drive in Brighton

Reopen Madeira Drive in Brighton
The Issue
Madeira Drive is 200 (ish) yards east of Brighton Pier, where the scooters arrive in the iconic film Quadrophenia
On the 20th April 2020 Brighton Council closed Madeira Drive to motorised traffic to allow people to exercise on bicycles and by walking during the Covid-19 pandemic. Which is a completely understandable and sensible decision.
However the local council have since decided to try and keep that famous stretch of road closed permanently and to use it for “redevelopment”! This would have a detrimental affect on the 35 local businesses that operate in that area including The Volks Nightclub as well as, affecting many historic events including: Brighton National Speed Trials, Brighton Mod Weekender, Brighton’s Skinhead Reunion and also the Ace Cafe Reunion, Brighton Burn Up and InCarNation Brighton. Just to name a few.
Therefore this petition is to Brighton & Hove County Council to reopen Brighton's Madeira Drive to all users without further delay to save the businesses operating there, reinstate access for motorcyclists, scooterists, taxis, blue badge bays and coaches, and enable visitor parking.
Brighton and Hove has suffered enormous economic damage due to lockdown and needs all the help it can get to recover especially as the UK is now entertaining recessions.
The previous petition run by Laura King to keep Madeira Drive open gained an astounding 10636 signatures!
However it appears that the council still have there own agenda which will determine the fate of Madeira Drive despite the petitions huge support.
I am confident if we all support the re-opening of Madeira Drive to how it once was before that we can succeed!
