Why this petition matters

Started by paul phillips

The beautiful sculpture art on Brighton's east beach is being threatened with demolition by BHCC.

Brighton’s “last beach fisherman” is being told to take down the collection of flint statues he’s built on the beach over health and safety fears.

I believe this is very short sighted as they are incredible pieces of art built by one man that is central to a fading heritage.

Instead of treating any complex issue with a bulldozer, BHCC could have the foresight to assist in making this part of the beach safe, beautiful and enjoyable and this art could be a core element of that.

Whilst I have no objection to the 360 tower and all the retail and economic reasons for that, it would be awful to be blinkered to something extraordinary.

Imagine if the council of Barcelona knocked down Gaudi's work for H&S reasons.

Please consider a more forward thinking arts based approach to this and secure Rory McCormack's work as part of our local heritage.
