We have hit 2K signatures!!! This is completely unprecedented and could not have been possible without the hardwork that every supporter has put into this cause! We want to thank you personally for your courage and commitment to this movement!
We do want to inform you and other supporters of some changes we have made to the petition. As this is a progressing issue, there is new information that comes every single day that wasn't brought to light when the petition was originally created. We at PSS feel obligated to keep you informed and knowledgable about the issue so you can help fight the good fight as informed as you can be.
We want to clarify that CES did not have a role in BYU-Idaho's policy change. The decision was brought about by the President Executive Committee of BYU-Idaho.
We also want to note that BYU-Hawaii's coverage options only include 1) their own Student Health Plan and 2) private insurance. Students are automatically enrolled into the school's SHP at no cost. Just as long as they stay full-time students. This policy did not come about when BYU-Idaho made their recent change to not accept Medicaid. We at Progressive Student Society of Rexburg will focus our time and attention to the policy change here in BYU-Idaho because of it's urgency and need of immediate attention. Also because it will be more easier to organize and strengthen this movement within the state of Idaho. We will exclude BYU-Hawaii from the title and our petition description; but If you know anybody who is a student at BYU-Hawaii and would want the school to accept medicaid coverage, we ask that you help them in creating their own petition and organize a group to bring a change there.
Though we have made a few changes in the description of this petition, our goal for BYU-Idaho remains the same. We still demand a public statement addressing the issue and urge the school's administration to keep Medicaid coverage for students.
We ask that you join us along with other concerned individuals (not associated with PSS) that want BYU-Idaho to reverse their decision. Join the "Accept Medicaid BYU-I" Facebook page so we can make further plans for how we can solve this issue. Also, please continue to share this petition on social media and help spread awareness through the new hashtag:
#medicaidbyui
Share your own personal story, that of someone you know, or your own personal feelings for why we should keep Medicaid coverage in BYU-Idaho through this hashtag. Let the school and world see what is going on in Rexburg. Let's keep the pressure going and tell BYU-Idaho that we will continue to fight for the students who will be affected by this change.
God bless you and thank you!
Sincerely,
Progressive Student Society of Rexburg
