In June 2021, the Student Life Vice President, contacted the Ice Cat Hockey Board (the governing body of BYU's club hockey team) and informed them that Brigham Young University would not renew the teams contract, which allows them to be affiliated with BYU, after the 2021-22 season.

The termination of this contract will likely result in the end of the program. 

The team has operated under this affiliation for 15 years and in that time have been great ambassadors for the university both locally and nationally.

The team would like the opportunity to sit down with the university to look for solutions so that the team might continue to affiliate with the university, represent the sport of hockey at BYU, provide an opportunity for the many fans of the game on campus as well as the local community to enjoy collegiate hockey as a representative of their school, and provide an opportunity for collegiate hockey players to represent the school they have chosen to attend.
