The Issue

Have you ever had an experience crossing 200 South in Brigham City that's jangled your nerves?  Have you ever watched children or adults wait and wait to cross as traffic speeds by?  Do you ever count the gigantic gravel trucks that thunder down 200 South, with residences lining both sides?

Please join us in petitioning our Mayor, City Council, City Planner, UDOT, and the school district superintendent to bring their skills together and make 200 South a pedestrian-friendly street.

“Box Elder School District will always be supportive of efforts to improve conditions related to the safety of students and patrons. On this particular issue there are some relevant facts that will likely be important to consider. There should be no students crossing 200 South to access a BESD bus to be transported to Mountain View Elementary. Students who live South of 200 South fall in the area established by the State of Utah as "walking" areas due to the distance of their residence from the school. BESD has approved transportation for students whose residence is North of 200 South and there are 2 bus stops on that side of 200 South for the convenience of those who live North of that street. Students who are crossing 200 South would be doing so in violation of the policy and practice of the district. We would still be in support of any improvements in safety consideration that others would wish to pursue. A good example is the solution reached by Brigham City when they were approached by parents concerned about the safety crossing the street in front of Mountain View Elementary.”
