Hey all! Thank you so much for your support! I wish I could respond to all the comments! Please feel free to email me at e5white@student.bridgew.edu with any questions or support! As some of you know and have accidentally received an email in response to me from David Tillinghast! Our cause will be presented to the University's Traffic and Parking Committee! Hopefully, this makes at least a dent but we can't get our hopes up so continue to speak out! I will be updating regularly in regards to questions, concerns, opposition (though minimal), and propositions. I will be including some pieces of comments about feelings regarding the parking situation and ideas I've gathered for improvement from supporters on discord and other platforms.

  • Kyle Coleman says, "If the parking situation doesn't change soon I am going to have to transfer. As a student with mobility issues the current lack of parking that is acceptable to classes and dorms is unacceptable." I agree, this is completely unacceptable, I've seen a few remarks disregarding BSU's "mobility accommodations" and I have one thing to say to that. If those accommodations are so helpful, then why are our disabled brothers and sisters still struggling?
  • Heatha Harris says, "I am a member of the community and so are my children who are the future" Thank you for your support! I'm so glad we can reach the greater community!
  • Artuno on discord says "I feel like they should build a garage at the Spring lot, they've got the room." Absolutely true!
  • One comment was left which struck a nerve with me regarding the "safety" concerns I mentioned in my initial report. This comment addressed the emergency boxes all around campus. I would like to say my safety concerns are not public safety concerns, rather weather safety concerns as Massachusetts has such wild winter weather and 1/3 of our time here is in the winter. Slippery walkways and roads as well as freezing temperatures make it dangerous to navigate campus and I would love for it to be easier to navigate.

Some of the suggestions I've seen so far are to:

  • Build a new parking garage closer to the academic campus to support commuters and change the current commuter garage to residential
  • Expand lots such as Spring lot, Weygand lot, West lot, etc.
  • Open west campus lot to commuters and staff so that commuters have a closer means to get to their classes, as the staff lots are half-empty most of the time.

Also, big reminder that this petition is to support commuter students as well as residential students, I may have spoken more about residential students in my initial posting, just as I am one myself, but I want to make it easier for commuters to get to their classes!
